Is the app free?
Yes — Whatsinthebox is free to download on the App Store with 5 boxes included. Upgrade to the Apartment Pass (50 boxes) or The Big Move (200 boxes) with a one-time in-app purchase.
How does the AI scanning work?
When you take a photo of your box contents, the image is sent to Claude AI by Anthropic which identifies and tags every visible item. Results typically appear within a few seconds.
How accurate is the AI?
Claude AI is highly accurate at identifying common household items. Each item is tagged with a confidence score so you can review and edit results. You can also manually add, rename, or remove item tags.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can delete individual boxes or all your data at any time from within the app. For full account deletion, contact us at the email below.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. Your photos and inventory are stored in private, encrypted cloud storage and are only accessible through your authenticated account. We never sell, share, or use your data for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I export my inventory?
Yes — you can export your full inventory as a CSV file from within the app. This includes box numbers, rooms, all item names, and scan dates.
How do I restore my purchases?
In-app purchases are tied to your Apple ID. If you reinstall the app or switch devices, your purchases will be restored automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID.
